The Challenge

The Chapel Road, Wrentham site presented a number of technical challenges that required careful and coordinated design input. The site is naturally sloping, introducing complexity in establishing suitable development levels while maintaining buildability across the plots. This was further constrained by a high groundwater table, which significantly limited the use of traditional infiltration drainage solutions and increased the sensitivity of the drainage strategy. Balancing surface water management, levels design and infrastructure within these constraints required a considered approach to ensure the scheme remained compliant, practical and deliverable, whilst meeting planning and Lead Local Flood Authority requirements

Our Solution

  • Developed a coordinated site levels strategy that worked with the natural topography to minimise earthworks and maintain buildable plots
  • Designed a drainage strategy suited to high groundwater conditions, avoiding infiltration and ensuring compliance with LLFA requirements
  • Incorporated attenuation-based SuDS solutions to control surface water runoff and discharge rates
  • Delivery of post-planning civil engineering design services aligned with project requirements
  • Integrated levels, drainage and infrastructure into a fully coordinated and efficient site layout
  • Undertook Section 278 (S278) highway design to deliver safe and compliant access arrangements to the site
  • Provided ongoing technical input to resolve constraints early and support planning progression
  • Worked closely with the wider design team and stakeholders to de-risk the scheme and maintain deliverability
